If i think about Staffan Öfwerman, as a Roxette's fan, I can say he is a great musician,he's the younger brother of Clarence.He toured with Roxette in late 80's and early 90's. He's a great singer, keyboard player player and percussionist. He is married, and he has two children (Jackie, 1986 and Hampus, 1989) from an earlier relationship.
He have released some singles with his old band "The Breeze" (I still can recall : "Shine Your Love" ). But i know he has something really new under the sun. So let's go step by step. Hi Staffan! I let you introduce yourself... Hello there. I hope everything is great in your part of the world, since, here in Sweden, it's getting darker and colder everyday.
Maybe it's good in one way, since I can stay indoors working with some of the new things I'm up to. My new band Grand Pop Station is really taking up most of my spare time these days, since I'm very much involved in this. It's my own record label, it's recorded in my studio, I'm the recording engineer, the mixing engineer and I write most of the songs and lyrics as well. But the whole band is involved in the songs and they come up with their personal inputs, which is very good to have our own sound.
I'm also programming our new web site, delivering our new single to as many radio stations around the world as I can. Therefore I'm also building a very large database that I have made myself and it's a lot of work to be done, before it's complete. So, it is great if our fans around the world can help us with the contact e-mail to their local radio station, where they think our music might be played. A lot of stations already started playing it and it seems they like it, since some of them play it on A-rotation (which is a couple of times every week or maybe even a couple of times every day, I think).
So, now we hope people will buy our single, so we can afford to release more songs to all of you. And the new songs we have in the pipeline sounds really, really good. Just a few more words here and there that has to be written before it's ready.
Now,here comes the questions . Hope you have a good time answering them:
- Why you decided to change "The Breeze" name for "Grand Pop Statation" ?
When my friends heard some of my songs I've written and some of the old stuff, they said we should start a band and keep the old name from my old band. So, we started to write new material and tried some songs in the rehearsal studio. The old record company decided to re-release 3 of the old singles with The Breeze as digital downloads and people liked the old stuff. But all of a sudden a band from Holland wrote me and said they had been called The Breeze since the early 90's (and so did we in a way). But since we were a new band with new members, we decided to change the name instead.
We had a little competition on our web site, where fans could send us a new name and in the end we were voting for the best name. We had a lot of names to pick from and all of the band members voted, without knowing where the names came from. In the end Grand Pop Station won and the one who sent that name was our own keyboard player.
- Are new members on GPS or are you still the same guys who played in
the Breeze ?
The Breeze was a duo. It was me and an old friend called Gunnar Skoglund (Woodgroove). We played all the instruments ourselves and did only record songs. We never played live. So, this new band is something new and Gunnar is not in this band.
- How is to work with them (Per H,Robert W,Isak & Sonny F) ?
These are really great guys and soooo kind. They are great musicians and very funny people. We have a great time together.
- The new site of Grand Pop Stations looks great & very promising. Is it
finished or still under construction ?
Since I'm the one doing the web site and all other things right now, I decided to wait a little for the finishing touch. I might open up a couple of floors on the web site, so people will have as much fun as we in the band are having, when trying the site. Some people say, they don't wanna register to access the web site, but I hope it's worth it.
This is our home and home page. Do you invite strangers to your own home? I guess not, that's why people have to register, so we know who is in the house. And in the future this login will probably be used so people can meet inside the house as well. It's going to be a fun place.
- "Daddys Little Boy" is your brand new single, how did it born ? I mean
who wrote the lyrics and music ? Where the idea came from for this song ?
Actually this song was written by me in the old Breeze days. But when we had that band, we always put both names under a song. But this song I think I wrote everything on my own. I really don't remember where I got the idea from, but I think I wrote it pretty quick with the lyrics and sound all in my head.
- "Daddys Little Boy" is doing really well in Itunes . Congratulations
for that ! Will be a physical release for the single or only is for
digital download ?
This will only be a digital download, but if people buy a lot, we can afford to release a physical album someday. But right now it looks like we will only release digital stuff.
It peaked at top 30 on iTunes the first day, but people couldn't buy from iTunes all over the world, so I decided to release it on Amazon as well and today it is available there as well, so get your own copy of Daddys little boy in your local Amazon Store.
- Are you recording more new songs ? Can you tell us something about them ?
The new songs are really good and I hope people can hear that it's our own sound. The lyrics are both simple pop lyrics and also about stuff like the environment problems we have in the world, which is something I care about. So it feels a lot singing about it.
- When are you planning release the brand new album of "Grand Pop
Station" ?
Like I said earlier, this will be a digital release only. But if people buy our single, we might have enough money to print real cd's as well. But there might be other solutions as well that we are thinking about.
- Any working title for the album ?
Funny, I thought about that yesterday and just haven't started thinking about it yet. So, the answer must be no. I need to start thinking...
- Are you planning go out on tour with the album ? we hope so!
So do we. We really hope that people buy and like our music and that people around the world will ask their local radio stations to play our songs. Then wwe might come and play. We would really like to take GPS on tour. Great music, great band and great fans. Band Info:
